New Delhi: A serious case has emerged in Kerala where suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamakootathil has been accused of repeatedly exploiting a woman over a long duration. According to the FIR, the woman said she faced mental pressure and was threatened when she tried to resist. She claims that the MLA misused personal trust and forced her into continued interaction. The matter gained urgency after she approached the police and provided details. Authorities consider this a sensitive case requiring fast legal action.
The FIR states that the accused was aware of the woman’s pregnancy, yet the exploitation allegedly continued. This aspect has made the case legally tougher because such conduct during pregnancy is treated as an aggravated offence. Investigation officers have recorded that the woman felt extremely unsafe but feared social backlash. She reportedly attempted to step away but faced pressure. Legal teams are now examining whether additional charges apply due to the pregnancy angle.
As per the complaint, the woman was threatened with misuse of private material if she declined further interaction. She alleges that certain personal visuals were recorded and used to intimidate her. Experts say such behaviour, if proven, falls under serious legal sections dealing with blackmail and harassment. It is claimed she did not speak earlier due to fear. Authorities are now verifying digital evidence and tracing communication patterns connected to the allegations.
Police have also named Joby Joseph, a close associate of the MLA, as co-accused in the FIR. The woman has alleged that he was present during certain incidents and contributed to pressure tactics. There are claims that she was forced to consider consuming pills to end the pregnancy. However, medical verification is still awaited. Investigators are evaluating whether his role was active or supportive in nature and suitable charges will be framed accordingly.
Initially, the FIR was registered at Valiyamala police station but later shifted to Nemom station for better handling. A Special Investigation Team has now been formed to collect evidence and question individuals. Due to fear of the accused fleeing the country, a lookout circular has been issued by authorities. Police have not yet traced their exact locations. Investigators say efforts are ongoing and arrest may happen once tracking is successful.
After the complaint surfaced, the Congress Party suspended the MLA to ensure fair probe. Opposition parties have demanded strict punishment if the allegations are proven true. Some voices suggest political rivalry but legal experts dismiss this possibility due to the gravity of the claims. Social organisations have supported the woman and demanded justice. The incident has caused widespread concern across the state’s political circles.
Legal analysts believe that if evidence supports the FIR statements, stringent action is likely under existing law. The case could set an example for similar matters involving power misuse. Police have provided security to the woman and are moving ahead with statement verification. The court is expected to review findings soon. Whether justice is served will depend on the strength of evidence and the transparency of investigation in coming weeks.
